4 Tips to Keep Your Laminate Flooring Shiny and Bright

If you are planning to install laminate flooring in your home, it is important that you know how to take care of it. This type of floor, also called floating wood tile, is very low maintenance, but it can become less attractive if you don’t care for it in the proper way. Here are some tips:

Sweep or Vacuum with a Microfiber Dust Mop

One of the best ways to take care of your laminate flooring is to use a microfiber dust mop. These mops are perfect for picking up dust and small crumbs that can gather in corners. You can also dampen a microfiber cloth and use it as a wet mop as well. These mops are soft and gentle and won’t cause streaks. String or sponge mops are notorious for causing unsightly streaks and marks on your floating wood tile, so it is best to avoid using those if possible.

Use a Gentle Cleaning Solution

When you are mopping the tile, be sure you are using a very gentle cleaning solution. Floating wood tile can be cleaned with a simple combination of dish soap and warm water. You don’t need to use any specialized cleaners or solutions to provide a shiny finish.

Try Not to Saturate the Wood Tile

Another thing you don’t want to do when mopping the tile is to use too much water. If you are using a microfiber mop, you simply need to mist or lightly wet the mop pad. You do not want to apply too much water to the laminate flooring, as water can get underneath the panels or in the cracks along the floor molding. Excess water in these areas can cause the panels to warp. Although some manufacturers will say that their panels are water sealed, you should always err on the side of caution and just use a small amount of water.

Don’t Clean with Steel Wool Pads

If you have a stubborn stain that is sticking to the wood tile, your natural instincts may be to scrub the area with steel wool or some other scrubbing sponge. Try to resist doing this, as harsh scrubbing can cause serious damage to your laminate flooring. Instead, simply spray some cleaning solution directly to the stubborn area and allow it to soak for a few minutes. After the area has had a chance to loosen, take a soft cloth and dab at the area until it comes clean.

Installing laminate flooring in your home can be a major investment, so it is important that you care for it properly. Utilizing these tips can keep your wood tile looking shiny and bright for years to come.
